Local Food Processing Facility at The SHED on Main Street provided courtesy of Pulse of Life Church

FREE access to a 1,500 sq. ft. shared-use commercial kitchen for bulk fruit and vegetable processing. The facility features new equipment funded by a USDA Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure (RFSI) grant aimed to build resilience in the middle of the food supply chain through SD DANR. 

It is open to all market gardeners and local producers on a first-come basis

Available for use 7 days a week from 7 am to 7 pm by reservation.

Tray space: 2,251 square inches. Freeze dry 40 to 50 lbs. fresh food per batch. Freeze dry up to 10,000 lbs. fresh food per year. 7 trays. This is not included in the RFSI grant as free use. Please contact Glenn for availability.

Personal accessories used for your processing batches is not provided by the church. Please bring your own knives, utensils, cutting boards, jars, lids, boxes, and bags. You can purchase vacuum packing bags and label stock from the church if needed, otherwise we can recommend where to purchase them.

Certification and Food Safety Training Educational Opportunitities

  • The standard FDA-recognized curriculum for fruit and vegetable growers to comply with the FSMA Produce Safety Rule. Vegetable food safety and on-farm, post-harvest processing safety training is largely centered on FSMA Produce Safety Rule compliance, primarily through the Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) Grower Training. Ensure staff are certified in food safety (e.g., ServeSafe).
  • The commercial kitchen is eligible for organic certification with your certifying agency. 
  • Before FDA registration matters, you must get a local/state health permit. This requires submitting a floorplan, passing health inspections (proper sinks, refrigeration, surfaces), and obtaining a business license. . South Dakota Licensed Kitchen Process.
